SA: V8 race injects $17 million into SA economy
South Australian Premier JOHN OLSEN says the 2000 Clipsal 500 V8 motor race in Adelaide
injected $17 million into the state -- a $3.3 million increase last year's event.
Mr OLSEN says the event, held in the Adelaide parklands in April, has become a significant
contributor to the state's economy.
He says it made a loss of just $400,000 this year -- down from the $1.2 million lost
by the first race.
Audited figures show the race attracted 164,000 spectators, doubled the number of interstate
and overseas visitors to more than 13,000, attracted 21,000 corporate clients, and provided
SA media exposure and publicity valued at about $30 million.
Mr OLSEN says this represents outstanding value for the tax dollar.
