NSW: Toddler revived after near drowning in spa
SYDNEY, April 10 AAP - A toddler was revived by his parents after nearly drowning in
an indoor spa in Sydney's south-west, emergency workers say.
The 14-month-old boy was only in the spa at the house at Gemas Street, Holsworthy,
for a matter of minutes before he was found not breathing by a family member at about
2.30pm (AEST) today.
The boy's parents started CPR immediately and he started breathing again after about a minute.
Ambulance officers and the NRMA CareFlight flying trauma team were called to the scene
where a doctor and ambulance paramedics combined to stabilise the boy then place him on
a ventilator to control his breathing.
NRMA CareFlight flew the toddler to Westmead Children's Hospital under full intensive
care monitoring.
He was in a critical but improving condition on arrival there at 3.30pm, a CareFlight
spokesman said.
"The fact that family members started resuscitation made all the difference," the spokesman said.
